A Kingdom Divided: Why the Church Loses Power

When most believers look at the state of the church and feel like it is losing ground, they reach for one explanation: the devil is strong and the attack is fierce. Daniel Duval, the founder of Bride Ministries, teaches that the real problem is closer to home. The thing draining the church of its power is not the enemy outside. It is the division inside.

That sounds harsh. It is also exactly what Jesus said.

Jesus laid down a law about how kingdoms work, and it is as reliable as gravity.

Look at that word "desolation." In the original Greek it means to lay waste, to bring to nothing. So Jesus is not just saying a divided kingdom gets weaker. He is saying it gets emptied out. Something that was once good, ordered, and full of life is reduced to ruins from the inside.

Daniel Duval points out that this is not a rule for the Romans or the Babylonians only. It is a rule for the kingdom of God too. And here is the uncomfortable part. The church is the kingdom of God on earth, and the church is divided against itself. By Jesus' own law, that division does not just slow the church down. It lays it waste.

Ask a room full of Christians who is to blame for the church's weakness, and most will say the devil. Daniel Duval pushes back with a simple question: since when was the devil stronger than God?

If the enemy could destroy the church by his own power, he would have done it long ago. He cannot. So he uses the one weapon that actually works. He gets the church to fight itself. A house turned against itself does the enemy's job for him, for free.

This is why Daniel Duval teaches that the church has largely been digging its own grave. The desolation we see is mostly self-inflicted. That truth stings, but it carries enormous hope, because a wound you gave yourself is a wound you can stop giving. You are not helpless against an unbeatable foe. You are simply being asked to stop fighting your own family.

So why does the division keep going? Daniel Duval names the engine behind it: backwards thinking.

Backwards thinking is keeping a habit that takes you the wrong direction and expecting it to somehow start taking you the right one. Picture a business owner who wants more done, so he puts every worker in a separate building and cuts off all contact between them. Production would crash. Costs would climb. Nobody would call that a smart plan. Yet that is close to how the body of Christ often operates. Churches work in isolation, guard their corner, and rarely build anything together, and then everyone wonders why society keeps drifting further from God.

Daniel Duval uses a picture from racing to make it land. Imagine the finest, most powerful cars in the world lined up for a race. Now imagine some of them start in reverse. Instead of a race you get a pile-up. The cars trying to move forward keep getting slammed by the ones going backward. That, he says, is the church. Plenty of believers are trying to advance, but they keep getting knocked off the track by a culture of backwards thinking that treats division as normal.

Here is the test he offers. If running separately and competing quietly actually grew the kingdom, the numbers would show it. When generation after generation drifts further from faith, that is not proof the devil got stronger. It is feedback that the current approach is not working. Feedback is a gift. It tells you where to change.

It would be easy to hear all this and think the answer is for everyone to merge into one giant organization. That is not what Daniel Duval is describing. He teaches that there are two different kinds of unity, and the church needs both.

The first is unity of the Spirit. The moment a person receives Jesus, they receive the Holy Spirit and are joined to every other believer at the deepest level. Paul says it plainly.

This unity already exists. You do not create it. You guard it. Daniel Duval says treating another believer as an enemy is like one part of your own body attacking another part. It is one body.

The second kind is unity of the faith. This is the goal still ahead: believers actually agreeing on what God has revealed, working as one, instead of staying politely separate. This unity is built, not just received, and Daniel Duval teaches it grows as the church recovers the leadership God designed for it, with genuine apostles and prophets helping the whole body grow up into maturity together.

This is not Daniel Duval's private hobby horse. It was on the heart of Jesus the night before He died. In His final prayer, He did not ask first for protection or success. He asked for oneness.

Read the last line carefully. Jesus tied the world's belief to the church's unity. When the body of Christ is one, the world has a reason to believe. When the body is at war with itself, the witness gets buried under the noise.

Daniel Duval's current teaching frames this in big terms. He talks about whole regions where the rule of God becomes visible through a unified people, and he describes the days ahead as a season for believers to walk in real kingdom authority together rather than as scattered lone rangers. None of that is possible for a kingdom at war with itself. A unified church is not a nice extra. It is the doorway to everything God wants to do next.

It is tempting to read an article like this, agree, and aim it at other people. That is backwards thinking too. The drift toward division does not live only in denominations and church structures. It lives in individual hearts, in the quiet readiness to write off another believer, to assume the worst, to keep score.

So the practical first step is small and personal. Make peace where you can. Refuse to treat a fellow believer as the enemy. Choose to assume the best of the parts of the body that look different from you. Daniel Duval would say you are not lowering a standard when you do this. You are obeying the One who prayed you would be one.
