The Church Seated in Heavenly Places: Where You Really Are

Most believers picture themselves in one place: here, on earth, doing their best to reach a God who feels far away. Daniel Duval, the founder of Bride Ministries, teaches that this picture is missing half of the truth. According to Scripture, the church is not only standing on earth. It is also seated in heaven, right now, with Jesus. Once that sinks in, almost everything about prayer, authority, and the power of God's people starts to look different.

This is one of the most freeing truths in the Bible, and it sits in plain sight in a single sentence Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus.

Read that slowly. It does not say God will seat you in heaven someday. It says He already raised you up and seated you there, together with other believers, in Christ. The verb is past tense. As far as heaven is concerned, this is done.

"Heavenly places" is the key phrase, and it shows up again later in the same letter, this time describing a very different crowd.

Notice that "heavenly places" is plural in both verses. Daniel Duval teaches that this is on purpose. The unseen world is not one flat layer. The Bible describes more than one heaven. Paul himself mentions being caught up to "the third heaven" (2 Corinthians 12:2). The highest heaven is where God's throne is. Below it is a lower spiritual realm where the enemy still operates. The first heaven is simply the sky we can see.

So when Scripture says wicked powers are in "the heavenly places," it is talking about that lower realm, not the throne room of God. This is the same ground Bride Ministries covers in a kingdom approach to spiritual warfare. And when it says you are seated in "the heavenly places in Christ Jesus," it is talking about the highest one, right beside Jesus.

Here is where it gets powerful. Paul ends an earlier prayer with this:

If you look out your window, you will not see the literal feet of Jesus standing on everything. Daniel Duval points out that this is not a figure of speech to brush past. Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father in the highest heaven. Every lower realm, including the place where the enemy works, is positioned beneath Him. So when the Bible says all things are "under His feet," it means exactly that. The enemy operates in a realm that is already lower than the throne where Jesus sits.

Now put the two ideas together. Jesus is in the highest place. You are seated in Him. That means the same authority that holds the enemy beneath Jesus is the authority you have been placed inside.

This is the part that stretches people, so take it gently. How can you be living a normal life on earth and also be seated in heaven at the same time?

The bridge is one short phrase Paul used:

Christ is in you. And you are in Christ. So wherever Christ is, part of who you are is already there. Jesus fills heaven and earth at once, and because His life is in you, your life now reaches into both places too. Your body walks around in this world. Your spirit, joined to God's Spirit, is alive in the heavenly realm. You are genuinely a citizen of two worlds, and the heavenly one is the higher and more real of the two.

Daniel Duval often says it this way: you carry heaven with you everywhere you go. You do not have to climb up to reach God. The connection is already open, because your true home address is in heaven with Christ.

This is the very reason the Bible can tell us to pray with confidence:

You can come boldly because you are not knocking from the outside. You are already inside, seated with the One on the throne.

Paul takes this practical truth and turns it into a daily instruction:

Daniel Duval teaches that this is the difference between two ways of living. One way fights its way up toward heaven, hoping to earn a little attention from God. The other way starts from heaven and lives downward into earth. The first is exhausting. The second is rest. Your job is not to climb. Your job is to remember where you already sit, and to let that settle your mind when life on the ground gets loud.

This is also a quiet word of comfort. Your real life, the deepest part of who you are, is "hidden with Christ in God." The enemy cannot reach the place where your life is stored. He can harass the body and pressure the soul, but the core of you is safe in the highest heaven.

Up to here it can sound like a private blessing for one believer. It is far bigger than that. Scripture pictures that corporate body as living stones being built together in a heavenly Zion. Look again at how Paul described the church: it is "His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (Ephesians 1:23). The church is not a club. It is the body of Christ on the earth, carrying His presence and His authority together.

That is why Daniel Duval teaches that the enemy is far more afraid of a united church than of any single believer. Scripture says the church has a job that reaches into the unseen realm itself:

Read that one more time. God displays His wisdom to the powers of the unseen world through the church. When believers walk in agreement, knowing where they are seated and who they are in Christ, they are not just helping each other through the week. They are a living statement to the whole spiritual realm about the wisdom and victory of God. A church that knows its position in heaven is a force the enemy cannot ignore.

You do not have to feel any of this for it to be true. Your position in heaven does not depend on your mood. It depends on the finished work of Jesus and the simple fact that you are in Him.

Start here. When you pray, come boldly, the way Hebrews tells you to, not as an outsider begging for a hearing, but as someone already seated near the throne. When fear or shame tries to pin your attention to the ground, set your mind on where you actually are, hidden and safe with Christ in God. And do not try to walk it out alone. You were placed into a body, and the truth grows strongest when believers carry it together.
