Leviathan and the Religious Spirit: Daniel Duval Explains

Open a video feed and count the accusation channels. Another minister exposed. Another ministry named. It can feel like war has broken out inside the church, brother against brother.

On a July 2026 episode of Discovering Truth with Dan Duval, Daniel Duval steps back from the noise and names what he believes is driving it: the Leviathan spirit and the religious spirit working together. He describes it as a recruitment drive. The enemy is signing up voices for a smear campaign, and he wants yours. Duval starts with an honest admission: some of the exposure is God's own doing. The Bible teaches that judgment begins at the house of God (1 Peter 4:17). Real wrongs have been committed by people in influential positions, Duval explains, some of them criminal and long hidden. God is cleaning His own house first, because a major move of heaven is being prepared.

But the devil is an opportunist. He studies a season and asks how to turn it to his advantage. Behind the legitimate housecleaning, Duval describes a second wave: people singling out names and ministries with no substantial accusation at all. He sorts these recruits into groups. Some are malicious. Some are paid. Some are confused. Some chase income by attaching themselves to a well-known name.

Leviathan shows up in Scripture as a serpent that twists. Isaiah 27:1 (NKJV) says:

The religious spirit brings a different weapon. Second Timothy 3:5 (NKJV) describes people "having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!" This spirit keeps the appearance of faith while rejecting anything that actually troubles the kingdom of darkness.

For a reader who did not grow up in church, the phrase religious spirit can land as jargon. Bride Ministries uses it to describe a mindset, and the spiritual pressure behind it, that guards the outward shape of faith while resisting anything that actually costs the kingdom of darkness ground. It prizes being correct over being changed. That is why it so often shows up as a critic rather than a builder, and why Paul told Timothy to turn away from it rather than argue with it.

Marry the two and you get the current climate: teachings twisted until they sound sinister, then judged by a standard that brands everything unfamiliar as false teaching.

Duval adds an insight worth sitting with. The voices God is raising up for the coming season do not sound like the voices of earlier seasons. There is an upgrade in revelation and in the language used to describe how the spirit realm works. That unfamiliar language is exactly the opening the twisting spirit exploits. If a fresh way of saying something can be bent, it can be labeled dangerous.

Duval offers listeners a filter. Actual wrongdoing involves specifics: crimes, victims, evidence. Slander in the church sounds different. It runs on suspicion and volume. He puts it plainly: a theological difference is not an accusation against character. Believers have disagreed on Bible teaching for thousands of years, and he includes himself among those still learning. Then examine the fruit. Duval points to years of accusations against Bride Ministries and sets them beside what the ministry keeps witnessing: broken hearts mended, demons cast out, bloodline cycles broken in the name of Jesus.

Finally, remember who the fight is with. Ephesians 6:12 locates the battle in spiritual powers, not flesh and blood. People spreading lies are not targets; they are captives who need the love of God. Believers can confront principalities without ever declaring war on a person.

The episode closes with a counter-enlistment. Daniel 11:32 promises that the people who know their God will be strong and carry out great exploits, and Duval reads that promise against its end-times backdrop. Something extraordinary is ahead for the body of Christ, which is why the mudslinging is so loud right now.

So he hands listeners an assignment. Refuse intimidation. Honor the men and women God is using, publicly and by name. And when something you read about a ministry does not line up with what you have seen God do through it, weigh it before Him rather than passing it along.
