Giving as Spiritual Warfare: The Threefold Cord

Most people file giving under the word "charity." It feels kind, a little optional, and easy to put off until money is less tight. There is a principle Scripture states plainly: what you give comes back to you, measured by how you measured it out.

Paul says the same thing using a farmer's picture.

A farmer who plants a single seed harvests a single plant. A farmer who plants a field harvests a field. Giving works on that pattern. The amount you sow shapes the size of what comes back, not because God is running a vending machine, but because this is how He set up His world.

The "left hand, right hand" line means this: do not turn your giving into a performance. Do not give to be seen, praised, or thanked. Give quietly, as an act between you and God. The reward comes from Him, not from the applause of people who notice.

Grudging giving, given because you feel cornered into it, is not the kind God delights in. He loves a cheerful giver. The goal is not a perfect number squeezed out under pressure. It is a willing heart that gives gladly, settled in advance, not pried open at the last second.

The word "tithe" simply means giving a tenth of what comes in. Some believers argue it ended with the Old Testament, since Jesus fulfilled the law of Moses. The reasoning sounds clean, but it misses something.

The first tithe in Scripture happened long before the law of Moses existed. Abraham gave a tenth of everything to a priest named Melchizedek.

That detail carries weight. Tithing showed up centuries before the law, in the life of Abraham, the father of faith. So the tithe did not get cancelled when the law was fulfilled. It belongs to a deeper and older agreement that still stands.

That is freeing, not heavy. The tenth is not a tax to dread. It is a doorway into an arrangement God set up for people who trust Him with their money.

This is the part that turns giving from a nice habit into a real defense. One passage frames withheld giving as something with spiritual consequences.

Read that as an invitation, not a threat. God all but dares His people to test Him on this. Bring the tithe, and watch what He does. The reason this connects to spiritual warfare is simple.
