Inner Healing Prayer: A Targeted BMI Guide

Inner healing prayer reaches further when it is targeted. Bride Ministries explains how to pray for the soul, spirit, heart, and bloodline.

Inner Healing Prayer That Actually Lands: Stop Praying Generic

Many believers have prayed for healing and felt nothing change. The problem is rarely faith. It is usually targeting. Generic prayer treats the person as one block. Inner healing prayer that is targeted brings the finished work of Jesus to a specific wounded layer, by name: the soul, the spirit, the heart, or the bloodline. If you have prayed for years and the wound has not moved, the question is not "what is wrong with you" but "which layer is asking for ministry next."

What Targeted Prayer Actually Means

A generic prayer like "Lord, please heal me" is good, but it does not name the layer. Targeted prayer does: "Lord, I bring before you my human spirit. I renounce every covenant my ancestors made that has bound it." Precision matters because the kingdom of darkness works by legal rules: covenants, contracts, accusations. Zechariah 3 shows it. Joshua the high priest stands before the angel of the LORD, with "Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him" (Zechariah 3:1), and the angel answers, "See, I have removed your iniquity from you" (Zechariah 3:4). Iniquity is removed in a legal exchange, not a vague feeling. That is what people mean by the courts of heaven: asking God, the Judge of all the earth, to settle the legal matters the enemy uses to keep someone bound.

The Bible also names the parts of a person one at a time. Paul prays for "your whole spirit, soul, and body" to be kept blameless (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Targeted prayer follows that lead and names the part it is ministering to.

The Three Layers of the Human Being

Bride Ministries teaches that a person is a body, a soul, and a spirit, three real parts. The heart is the deepest layer: the center where soul, spirit, and DNA converge from the human essence, the gate where they meet. It is not a fourth part, and it is not the spirit itself.

  • Body is the physical flesh: DNA, blood, bone, organs. It carries iniquity in its genetic code and can be addressed by name.
  • Soul is the conscious mind, will, emotions, and intellect, the "me" most people mean by "myself." Most prayer ministry stops here.
  • Spirit is the super-conscious part, with its own mind, will, and emotions. It is often distinct from the soul, and often in a different condition.

The cousin article Connecting the Body, Soul, Heart, and Spirit lays out the full model. The distinction most teaching skips is that soul and spirit are not the same. Daniel Duval, founder of Bride Ministries, writes in Pummel the Devil (Chapter 3):

"It took me years of study before I was able to clearly delineate between soul and spirit. A person is defined as one who has their own mind. The key to distinguishing soul and spirit is to understand that we are each three 'persons,' but one human. This is similar to the concept that God is three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) yet one God."

This has two effects on prayer. The soul can be free while the spirit is still in captivity, and the spirit can carry wounds the soul has never reached. Targeted prayer ministers to each separately.

Why the Spirit Is the Most Overlooked Layer

The human spirit is the part of a person the church understands least. Daniel Duval writes in Prayers that Shake Heaven and Earth ("Prayer for the Spirit of Man"):

"The human spirit is a component of our creation that has been poorly understood. For this reason, the Church has been quite inefficient in ministering to the spirit of man. Most of the ministry I have personally witnessed has catered more to the soul than to the spirit. We are a three-part being, and God has a plan to minister to every part of us (1 Thessalonians 5:23)."

In that same chapter, Daniel teaches that the human spirit can be addressed in general or by one of seven facets that mirror the seven redemptive gifts of Romans 12:6-8: Prophet, Teacher, Exhorter, Ruler, Servant, Giver, and Mercy. Each can be ministered to on its own. The Blessing the Essence Prayer article goes deeper on the essence and these facets, and the Bride Ministries article with Dr. Rob Ruckert is a useful next step. Targeted spirit prayer is not a complicated incantation; it is the believer speaking blessing and the finished work of Jesus over their own spirit.

How to Pray Targeted Prayer for Your Own Inner Healing

A few steps a believer can take, in order, to bring targeted inner healing prayer into daily life.

Step one: invite your spirit to the surface

In Pummel the Devil (Chapter 3), Daniel describes the practice that became a turning point for him in 2015. Prompted in prayer, he invited his own human spirit to the surface and blessed and honored it in the name of Jesus. He sensed a strong presence and heard his spirit declare identity and purpose in Christ.

This is the believer speaking to their own spirit, before the Lord. It is not praying for someone else, and it is not a meditation technique. It is naming the part of you that has been ignored and honoring it in Jesus' name. A reader can start simply: "My spirit, I bless you in the name of Jesus. I welcome you to be present with me." Then wait.

Step two: agree from the heart, not from memory

This is the most important rule in spirit-level prayer, and the one most teaching gets wrong. The reader does not need to remember the trauma, the covenant, or the wound to receive freedom. Spirit memories overwhelm the soul's memory, so the body, the spirit, and the bloodline carry information the conscious mind has never reached. What the reader needs instead is heart posture: willingness to let Jesus minister where the mind cannot see, and trust that He knows what is in the bloodline even when the reader does not. This is why the prayers in Prayers that Shake Heaven and Earth are written with blanks. They work even with no memory of what is being renounced, because the Holy Spirit fills in the rest.

Step three: address one layer at a time

Targeted prayer is verbal, spoken aloud, because free will is what activates the legal transaction (the next section explains why). And the temptation is to pray everything at once. Bride Ministries has watched this overload the soul and the spirit, with no lasting fruit. The better pattern is to ask the Holy Spirit which layer is next, pray it with attention, and rest. The next layer will surface in time. This is why inner healing is best walked as a season, not a weekend retreat, as the staged process of freedom explains.

Praying With Someone, Not For Them

This is a load-bearing rule. Targeted prayer at the spirit level cannot be prayed on behalf of another adult. This holds for pre-Adamic repentance prayers, generational bloodline prayers, and any spirit-level renunciation.

The reason is the way the Bible describes free will and legal authority. The person whose spirit is addressed must be present and consenting, or the prayer asks for a transaction they never authorized. A partner can read the prayer aloud, but the reader must still agree out loud, by repeating it or saying, "I agree with that prayer in Jesus' name." That is the difference between praying with the reader and praying for them. If two sisters pray over the older sister's bloodline iniquity, the younger can read the prayer, but the older sister must agree in her own voice. Her "yes" is the legal hinge.

This is not about doubting anyone's faith. It is about honoring how the courts of heaven work. The companion prayer page on Pre-Adamic Repentance Prayer explains the same rule from another angle.

Targeted Prayer for Iniquity and Bloodline Healing

Iniquity is one of the most common layers targeted prayer is built for. It is the defilement that anchors to the genetic code and passes from one generation to the next (Exodus 34:7, Deuteronomy 5:9). The full deep-dive is in Iniquity Resolved: The Ultimate Key. One key point: Acts 8:23 shows that a person who has confessed faith in Jesus and been baptized can still be "bound by iniquity," because the iniquity layer is a separate transaction. Salvation and water baptism do not by themselves break inherited iniquity. The assumption that they do is what Bride Ministries calls the "greasy grace" error, covered in depth by the article on why deliverance is a process, not one event.

Daniel often teaches that bloodline-level prayer is bigger than one person's freedom. When a person deals with their own bloodline iniquity, it is a form of warfare for their family and city, because as iniquity drops, the accusation against that whole region drops with it. The targeted bloodline prayers in the Bride Ministries corpus, especially the "Freedom from Fallen Heavenly Powers" prayer in Prayers that Shake Heaven and Earth, follow a clear legal order. The prayer renounces the thing by name, pulls up every hidden covenant or oath and stamps them with the blood of Jesus, deeds the believer's inner territory over to the Kingdom of God, cuts the believer free with the sword of the Spirit, and receives their true inheritance in Christ. That order is why it is far stronger than a single sentence of repentance.

The full prayer is not on this page. It lives inside a healing journey, with the context and support around it. For a related angle, see Bloodline-Level Deliverance.

When Targeted Prayer Is Most Helpful

Not every problem needs spirit-level prayer. Sometimes the layer is plain sin, and a simple deliverance prayer is the right tool. Targeted prayer is most helpful when:

  • The bondage is stubborn. It has not yielded to general prayer, fasting, or accountability, and the same pattern keeps coming back.
  • The pattern repeats across the family: addiction across three generations, sexual brokenness in a line that never breaks. Bloodline patterns signal iniquity-layer prayer.
  • There is a wound the soul cannot name. Grief, fear, shame, or rage with no memory attached. The body knows and the spirit knows, but the soul has no story for it.
  • The believer has already worked some trauma. Targeted prayer goes deeper than soul work alone; pairing it with a trained coach is the next step.
