Why the Enemy Wants Your Family Destroyed (and How to Fight Back)
If you have ever felt like your home takes more hits than it should, you are not imagining it. Daniel Duval, the founder of Bride Ministries, teaches that the family is one of the most powerful things God ever created, and that is exactly why the enemy works so hard to break it. When a home becomes a war zone, the people in it spend all their energy just trying to survive the day. They never get to the life God actually had for them.
This is a teaching about family on two levels: the household you live in, and the bigger family every believer is born into. Both are under attack. Both are worth fighting for.
Your Family Is a Place of Power
To understand why the enemy targets the family, you have to see how God designed it. In the very first chapter of the Bible, before God told people to take charge of the earth, He told them to build a family.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it." (Genesis 1:27-28)”
Notice the order. Be fruitful and multiply comes first. Then fill the earth and take charge of it. Daniel Duval teaches that this order is not an accident. God decided that a strong family would carry His power into the world. The home is meant to be a launching pad, a safe place a person comes back to so they can go out and do what God called them to do.
If that is true, then the strategy against it is obvious. If the enemy wants to keep a person from their purpose, he does not have to attack their calling head on. He just has to wreck their home. Create enough stress, division, and pain under one roof, and the whole family ends up using all its strength to put out fires instead of moving forward. Duval puts it plainly: if we do not get the family right, we will not get much else right either.
That is not meant to scare anyone. It is meant to wake us up. Your family is not a small thing. It is a target because it matters.
The Lines That Run Through a Family
There is another reason the enemy works at the family level instead of just one person at a time. Patterns travel down a family line.
Most people have noticed this without having words for it. The same struggles keep showing up generation after generation: the same kind of broken marriages, the same addictions, the same anger, the same money problems, the same heartbreak. It is so common that people shrug and say it just runs in the family.
Daniel Duval teaches that something real is happening underneath those patterns. The Bible describes a kind of spiritual inheritance that passes down a bloodline.
“For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me. (Exodus 20:5)”
He compares it to a form of spiritual DNA. Just as we inherit eye color and height from our parents, a family can inherit spiritual weak spots that open the door to the same trouble over and over. Most of these patterns run three or four generations, though some can reach back much further. The way to spot one is to look for a pattern that repeats across generations, not a single bad event.
Here is the good news, and it is the whole point. None of this is a life sentence. What gets inherited can be broken. Jesus took the curse on Himself so that His family could walk free of it. But Daniel Duval is careful here: freedom is not automatic. It does not just happen the moment a person believes. It has to be claimed. A believer can stand in the gap for their family, much like Nehemiah confessed his own sins and the sins of his ancestors, repent on behalf of the family line, and break the pattern by the blood of Jesus. If you want to go deeper on how that washing actually frees a person, the teaching on the blood, the water, and the Spirit walks through it, and Iniquity Resolved lays out the deeper root these patterns grow from.
The Bigger Family You Were Born Into
The household is one level. There is a second family the enemy is just as eager to divide, and most believers barely notice it is a family at all.
“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named. (Ephesians 3:14-15)”
The whole family. Daniel Duval teaches that the body of Christ is not a club of people who happen to share the same beliefs. It is a literal family with one Father. And it has a deep dysfunction problem, the kind where the people who should be the closest end up the most divided.
If we are honest, most of us treat other believers like acquaintances who go to a similar kind of church, not like brothers and sisters. That distance is not harmless. When a family splits into rival camps, it loses its strength, it loses its sense of who it is, and it leaves wide-open doors for the enemy to walk through. A house divided cannot stand. The first church looked nothing like this. They shared their lives, their meals, and their belongings, and the result was favor, power, and steady growth.
God did not leave the family broken with no way back. He gave every believer a job for exactly this.
“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18)”
Reconciliation simply means bringing what was broken back together. Every believer has been handed that assignment. And the wider family has a name worth remembering. Scripture calls it the household of faith and tells us to treat one another like family, "as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith" (Galatians 6:10).
How to Fight for Your Family
So what does fighting for your family actually look like? It is not complicated, but it is intentional. Daniel Duval points back to a choice every household has to make for itself.
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. (Joshua 24:15)”
That is a decision, not a feeling. A few honest steps put it into practice.
Start by seeing the attack for what it is. The stress and division at home are not random and they are not just your fault. Naming it as a real assault helps you stop fighting the people in your house and start fighting the thing trying to tear the house apart.
Then deal with the patterns. If the same struggle keeps cycling through your family line, you do not have to keep passing it down. Repent for it, break it by the blood of Jesus, and declare yourself and your children free. The Bride Ministries Prayer Library has prayers that walk through this step by step, and they are free to use.
Finally, take your place in the wider family. Stop treating other believers like strangers. Reach out, make peace where there is tension, and be the one who brings people back together. That is the ministry of reconciliation, and it makes the whole family stronger.
For many people, the wounds inside the home go deeper than a single prayer can reach. They were learned early, often through real pain, and they do not lift just because a person decides to try harder. That is not a lack of faith. It is a sign of something that needs gentle, deeper healing, and it was never meant to be faced alone. Bride Movement built a free healing assessment for exactly this. It takes about two minutes, it is private, and it points you toward the next step toward the family God always meant for you to have.
